What is Diversity Management?

What is Diversity Management?

The academic literature tends to discuss diversity management in two contexts.

The first describes diversity management in the context of the combined HR systems, policies, and practices designed to recruit, retain, and develop diverse employees (for example, see Nigel Bassett-Jones's study: The Paradox of Diversity Management, Creativity and Innovation).

The second focuses on diversity at the interaction level: how to effectively bring diverse talent together across an organization, examining group and team processes that enable diverse teams to function at a high level (for example, see the study by Robin J. Ely and David A. ThomasCultural Diversity at Work: The Effects of Diversity Perspectives on Work Group Processes and Outcomes).

The focus of our work at BSD is the latter: evidence-based management approaches and group processes that help organizations realize the benefits of diversity in the context of building, managing, and sparking creativity in diverse workplace teams through inclusive interaction across differences & distances.
