Connect to Increase Workplace Diversity

Self-managed teams and cross-training help increase workplace diversity.

Analyzing over 30 years of data from a sample of over 800 U.S. companies to assess the effects of corporate diversity programs on increasing workforce diversity in the managerial ranks in U.S. companies, Frank Dobbin and Alexandra Kalev found that some of the most effective approaches to increasing workplace diversity in the managerial ranks focus on managing diversity in a way that engages people to voluntarily participate in programs, increases contact among people from different groups, and promotes social accountability.

Among the approaches they highlight with proven effectiveness are self-managed teams and cross-training.
